About Bansko
Bansko is just 160 kilometers away from Sofia and 6 kilometers from Razlog. Situated in the north-eastern foot of the Pirin Mountains, right below the highest and most beautiful part of the mountain, Bansko's name comes from the old Bulgarian word "ban", which means "master".
The Pirin Mountains have a predominantly Alpine character and highest peak in the area is Vihren at 2914 m.
Bansko is an agricultural region with a more rural tradition than much of the rest of Bulgaria. The meandering cobbled streets of the old town and the traditional buildings underlie a rich and unique culture to the area.
The Holy Trinity Church in the centre of the town is exceptionally beautiful both inside and from the outside. The bell tower within the church grounds houses a family of storks who can be seen roosting most evenings at dusk during summer.
